Since s'Hertogenbosch deployed its first e-bus fleet in 2016, the city has continuedly been one of the front-runners of e-mobility in the Netherlands driving sustainbility ahead. Dutch public transport operator Arriva was looking for a fast charging solution, which would connect the existing fast charging infrastructure in the urban area with the suburbs and the residential area in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. As substantial noise reduction in the residential area together with reduced lead times had to be tackled, Heliox was chosen as the fast charging infrastructure partner to this project.

Heliox provided its latest innovation-the SMART switch together with the Heliox OC 300 kW charger that provided the automatic switch system for charging two e-buses with the same charger.  The new charging systems have been placed in the close proximity of residential households. Therefore, Heliox's liquid cooled system provides the perfect measure to depreciate noise levels. Since Heliox's fast charging equipment complies with all the industry standards, adding new equipment to the already existing infrastructure, shows Heliox's commitment towards interoperability and capability to charge any e-bus with Heliox's fast chargers.

This project is a great example of interoperability and the strength of open interfaces that connect already existing charging solutions with the new addition. Heliox's open technology ensures that current solutions can support large-scale, multi-supplier projects without complications. Ard Romers, director of VDL Bus & Coach Netherlands: "In this kind of complex projects, close cooperation between various parties is a prerequisite for a successful implementation. We have already had numerous E-Mobility collaboration project between Arriva and VDL Bus & Coach and Heliox in the Netherlands. After Venlo, Maastricht, Vlieland, Ameland and Terschelling, we are now also working on the development of zero emission bus transport in 's-Hertogenbosch. The pioneering role that the Province of North Brabant dares to play in the zero-emission project in 's-Hertogenbosch is essential for the further transition to clean and quiet electric transport. "
