Revolution, the newest Endurance Racer from student team InMotion, revealed.
Helmond, 5th of August - In the last quartile of 2020 a sneak peek was already given, but today the car is finally shown to the outside world. The Revolution, the newest Endurance Racer of the TU/e student racing team based at the Automotive Campus in Helmond, is a fact.
The InMotion team has done plenty of testing since the end of 2020, including at the TNO test facilities. The possibilities there have been used to test the battery pack, the heart of this unique electric race car, for its fast charging capabilities.
The race car was also extensively tested at Breda International Airport. Here the first driving tests were done up to 205 kilometers per hour. These tests were done to collect valuable data and to make sure the race car drives as stable as possible.
The fact that recharging takes only 12 minutes is a very impressive achievement. Student team InMotion is working towards the 24h of Le Mans, where they want to compete in 2023. "The team is already very proud of the performance we achieved during testing. We think that with this car we are making a great first step in the direction of "Electric Refueling", says the more than proud team manager Rainier Heijne.
About InMotion
In 2017, the first racing car, called the 'Fusion', was built by the student racing team InMotion. The Fusion is a true racing machine and has set 3 electric lap records; at Circuit Zandvoort, Circuit TT Assen and Circuit Zolder. However, the car had 1 flaw; the race car could only drive 3 full laps (an outlap, hotlap and an inlap). After that, the car was empty and had to be charged for an hour and a half. This is a challenge that not only the team faced, but a pillar that dominates the entire electric car market. Triggered by this challenge, the team started to focus on the future and saw the possible solution in “Electric Refueling”, charging an electric car as fast as refueling a petrol car. Since 2018, the team has been working on this charging technology and the team's car in which this technology is applied.
