Rapid charging expert Heliox reaches major milestone on some of the largest e-mobility projects in Europe.

1 September 2021 – Heliox, a market leader in fast, electric vehicle (EV) charging systems, has today announced its continued success across Europe, providing smart charging for e-fleets and passenger vehicles for some of the largest EV projects across the UK and continent. Founded in the Netherlands in 2009, Heliox operates across six key areas: e-bus, e-truck, electric passenger vehicle, marine, port and mining, and provides world class smart energy management solutions that are tailored and scalable within a fast changing e-mobility landscape.

In the last 6 months, Heliox has supplied over 1 million high power charge sessions, or 6000 sessions per day, with over 25,000 commercial EVs powered by Heliox globally. On average, this equates to a daily carbon saving of 3000-4000 tons per day . This demonstrates the savings per day for an e-bus as 3000-4000 tons.  In Europe alone, Heliox has installed e-bus chargers in over 40 cities, and now has a further 20 countries actively looking to deploy its solutions. In 2017, Heliox installed one of Europe’s first and largest rapid charging networks for e-bus fleets in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, and in 2018 brought the world’s largest charge depot to Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam to power 100 electric buses. Today Heliox has completed the second phase of this project for the wider Amstelland-Meerlanden (AML) region, providing 31MW of power to over 200 e-buses. The charging infrastructure provided by Heliox has also demonstrated the economic benefits to moving to e-fleets, with total cost of ownership for e-buses already nearly 25% lower than traditional diesel buses.

In the UK, Heliox has recently partnered with First Bus in Glasgow to power the UK’s largest electric bus station, creating infrastructure that can power up to 300 electric buses. The organisation has also provided over 6.3MW of power for e-buses in the city of Wiesbaden, Germany, while breaking ground on projects in Hamburg-Holstein to install 32 chargers providing interoperability for multiple e-bus OEMs in Phase 1 , and its recent partnership with Macquarie Green Investment Group will see the innovative “charging-as-a-service” model, helping remove up-front costs, rolled out across e-fleets around Europe with the initial focus of the partnership being in the UK, Belgium, Germany and The Netherlands.

Heliox’s future plan is centred around becoming the global leader in integrated charging services and smart energy management solutions by increasing the average size of projects, focussing on large fleets, and sourcing reliable energy for operations, as demonstrated by its recent Transferium project in Den Bosch, a model city project for the future of electrification. The markets for e-bus, e-truck and electric passenger vehicles are set to see exponential growth in the next five years, with Heliox best placed as the partner to provide infrastructure, such as fully financed turnkey charging solutions,  and support with roll outs. As we move towards a zero-emissions future, with a focus on cleaner energy and more economical solutions, it is clear that utilising the best energy possible is of utmost importance, and electric charging is a clear solution to this issue.
